This guitar maximizes the use of organic and recycled materials, reflecting an eco-responsible approach to instrument making. The Mycocaster guitar offers a wide range of sounds that exploit the acoustic properties of the fungus and is part of an artistic and scientific project led by luthier Rachel Rosenkrantz and the Belgian Coordinated Collections of Microorganisms (BCCM) consortium.
Rosenkrantz designs contemporary and ecological stringed instruments that are the result of several factors: her education in Art and Design in Paris (Met de Penninghen), her experience as a musician, and her passion for biomaterials and biomimicry, which she teaches in higher education (Rhode Island School of Design). Her search for new manufacturing methods and sounds brings her into contact with partners who help her realize her ideas, such as the BCCM.
BCCM offers high-quality solutions and services in the field of microbial and genetic resources. Thanks to the funding and coordination of the Science Policy PPS, BELSPO, academia and industry can make use of it.
