Since 2014 the International Music Competition Queen Elisabeth enjoys the High Protection of Her Majesty the Queen Mathilde. The competition was originally founded in 1937 under the name ‘Eugène Ysaÿe Competition’, in memory of the famous Belgian violinist, composer and conductor with whom Queen Elisabeth maintained a close friendship. In 1951, the Competition received its current name, in tribute to its initiator.
