The Belgian violinist, composer, conductor, concert organiser and pedagogue Eugène Ysaÿe was applauded throughout Europe and the United States, where he was called ‘The King of the Violin’. Many prominent composers dedicated great works to him, among them were Claude Debussy, Camille Saint-Saëns and César Franck. He was acclaimed for his interpretations of Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven and for his brilliant and meticulously refined technique.
