Eugene Ysaÿe's early love is composition. Among his most famous works are the six Sonatas for violin (solo) opus 27, the unaccompanied sonata for cello opus 28, a Sonata for two violins, Poems for different instruments (one or two violins, violin and cello, string quartet) and orchestra, a work for string orchestra without bass, concertos for violin, shorter pieces for violin and piano, three trios and a string quintet as well as an opera, written at the end of his life in the Walloon language.
